Are diets high in carbs -e.g bread-cause weight gain??isit healthy to eat oat bread instead?
May 9, 2013

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
A slice of oat bread, which weighs around 30 grams, provides 72 Calories, of which carbs provide 53 calories, fat accounts for 10 calories and protein makes up the remaining 9 calories. so its caloric content breakdown is as follows: 14% fat (polyunsaturated fat, i.e. good fat, and zero cholesterol), 74% carbs,12% protein. This provides 3.6% of the daily value for total calories, assuming a diet of 2,000 calories per day. One slice provides ~4%of the recommended allowance (RDA) for cars. This total includes 9.8 g of starch, 2.2 g of sugar and 1.1 g of dietary fiber. The dietary fiber content in a serving of oat bread is 4%of the RDA for dietary fiber. It also provides 5% of the RDA for proteins and 7% of the RDA for thiamine (Vit B1).
Oat is healthy because it's rich in manganese &is very high in selenium.
Note that carbs constitute the base of a healthy nutrition pyramid: RDA for carbs for an adult is 300 g, proteins 50 g, and fats 65 g. I do not know exactly what you mean by a diet high in carbs (what are the sources of carbs you consume and what are the amounts?). But be aware that if you're following a special diet in an effort to lose, weight, you need to consult a nutritionist to determine your daily needs of these 3 elements.
