Am I going to undergo xray or city scan?
Aug 7, 2014

Dr. Zakia Dimassi Pediatrics
Usually we start with an x-ray which in case of sinusitis may reveal what we call air-fluid levels (step like appearance that results from inflammation), thickening of the mucosa (the tissue lining the inside of the sinuses) or mucous material blocking partially or totally the affected sinus or sinuses. In case the condition is more severe and more complications (like brain involvement) are suspected, or in case the x-ray doesn't reveal any abnormalities with persistent symptoms, a CT scan will be advised and a better option. The CT will show if there's bone. erosion secondary to infection and if there's brain involvement
